The End: A Few Game Rides and some Epic Food
It was the second to last day and we woke up early as hell for another game drive that, honestly, was underwhelming. We saw a bunch of impalas, kudu, monkeys, and such and one lone male elephant. Besides that, it was not too much but still a nice time. The days at the river lodge were just straight chilling. We had been at it hard the whole time since we touched down in Africa, so I think the two of us were down to take it easy. Dinner was more than a highlight of this place; it was the best part aside from the views.
The food at the Zambezi River Lodge was absolutely outstanding. The first night’s dinner was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten which was an ostrich filet, cooked medium rare and it was one of the most tender things I have ever put in my mouth (teehee). As get older I enjoy meat more and more rare and this thing was cooked to perfection. It was so easy to cut, was cooked with an awesome seasoning and melted in your mouth. It also came with this green soup that I totally do not remember what it was, but it was amazing. I know, super interesting thing to say but I must give the soup an honorable mention. The next night was some marinated springbok which was equally as amazing. Super soft, fall off the bone texture and the marinade was a delight to the senses. I personally enjoyed the ostrich more because I am a fan of filets. No marbling, no fat, just meat.
The last game drive was uneventful again, so I want to say here that the Moditlo drives were far superior, but still a nice experience with good snacks, one final gin and tonic, and a final gorgeous sunset on the savanna to bid us farewell. I always get the blues at the end of an awesome adventure, so it was very bittersweet going to bed that night after such memorable trip and my first visit to Africa.
