Helicopter Ride, Chilling, and the Three Monkeys
The day after bungee jumping was a down day for my mother and me. We had been going balls to the walls the whole time and frankly needed some R&R. Although I did go on a helicopter ride. It was cool because they take you over the falls and seeing it from above was an awesome sight. However, the ride was expensive, and it was only a 12 minute flight. They basically take you in a figure 8 to see it from multiple angles, make you watch a stupid video they take of the passengers, and you’re on your way after spending $150. I won’t say it was not worth it, but only to do that single time and not more. I felt spoiled and jaded after the bungee jump. It was such rush that a simple ride in a helicopter was rather drab. Still, I got some good pictures.
Besides that, most of the day was laying out by the hotel pool reading and soaking up sun, two of my favorite activities. My mother got a pedicure while I was doing the helicopter ride and it was hardcore chilling the rest of the day until dinner which we had at a restaurant right across the street called the Three Monkeys. It was absolutely the main tourist restaurant, but man, was it good. It had good cocktails, decent beer, and very good food. We had kudu carpaccio to start off which was delicious. For those who don’t know, kudu is a game animal local to the Rhodesia area of Africa (more Southern Africa) and carpaccio is raw, thinly sliced meat usually served as an appetizer. They made it with this creamy sauce that was to die for and for the main course I had a bitchin buffalo burger.
As the final night at Ilala Lodge wound down, we went back to the rooms and relaxed while watching a movie. A heavily censored movie that bleeped out words like hell and damn. Like I said this area of the world is very prude for lack of a better word. This was a bit of a challenge for me to adapt to because, if I am being honest, I have one foul mouth.
